Are Stomach Balloons The Solution For Obese Patients?

without comments

The last 30 years have offered the slimming market numerous different scientific methods for preventing obesity – gastric byp***es included. Yet despite the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services directive in 2006 which demanded all Surgeries to have experienced cosmetic surgeons and equipment, these types of cosmetic procedures are still prone to creating health risks.

Even considering the fact that complication rates have fallen from 12.2% of patients to 10%, and the 30 day mortality rate has shrunk from 0.28% to 0.20% – these improvements are not enough when you add to the equation the thousands of slimmers who undergo these procedures …

Yet, this could soon all be changing if the ReShape Medical’s dual balloon design is approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Structured to help obese patients who fall either side of eligibility settings for gastric byp*** and laparoscopic gastric band placements cosmetic procedures, or who are considered to be too young (under18); the double-balloon device could easily support this excluded niche.

How does it work?

In its current condition, the dual balloon system is inserted into a patient’s throat using thin tubing before being filled with saline. As these 2 balloons are filled, slimmer’s will begin tofeel full and will begin to lose weight.

More importantly, once slimmer’s reach their weight loss goal, this device can easily by deflated and removed from the stomach without risk.

As we speak, this balloon device is planned to undergo its first medical trialat the start of March where 30 patients across 3 centers will be equipped with this balloon mechanism. Should it work, this clinical trial will be applied to three hundred and fifty patients across 10 cosmetic surgeris and eventually will be shown to the Food and Drug Administration for permission to be used.

Is the balloon safe?

It is unignorable that this device could essentially help hundreds of consumers who are either below age of consent or suffer from diabetes, coronary heart disease and muscle problems to lose weight, yet this double balloon system has got far to travelbefore it is approved.

Twenty six years ago a similar single balloon system was produced by Garren-Edwards and was implanted into patients. However, with no backup membrane to protect it from punctures, this balloon was prone to leaking and venturing into the small intestine where it produced dangerousblockages. Consequently, this device was quickly removed from the market.

Weight loss surgery is ultimately a rather expensive and dangerous method of losing weight – for those looking to achieve a consistant and prolonged weight loss without regaining the weight, consider trying a product such as Proactol. A clinicially proven and all natural method of losing weight naturally and safely without the risk of surgery!
